I recently took a position down in Cleveland Clinic / Univ. Hospitals / Veterans Hospital area of Cleveland. My family currently resides on the Stow/Kent border and are looking to relocate to a western suburb to reduce commute time and be closer to family that live in Strongsville. We found a house in Avon that we live but I am concerned about the commute. Anyone here make that commute? Google estimates a drive time of about 35-40 min (the home is about 10min from the I-90 on-ramp). I figure another 10min walk from parking spot to my office would put me at about 45-50 min "couch-to-cubical".

Are these estimates accurate? This is for a standard day not accounting for accidents, snow, etc.

We are also looking in Brecksville/Boardview heights, North Royalton, Strongsville, Olmsted Falls, Westlake, Bay Village, and Rocky River. But haven't found the large size lot we are interested in yet.

In bad weather you might want to double or triple those minutes you have listed...

By bad weather I assume you mean a snow storm. But for an average day are those values accurate?

There is lots to do in the University Circle area to kill time. So perhaps on a Tuesday-Thursday, test commute times yourself for your actual work hours. Depending upon your work hours, commute times can vary greatly, especially with non-interstate traffic a major consideration. Mondays and Fridays often have less busy commutes.

Depending upon your work location, also consider the RTA option from a free park 'n ride, especially if you don't have free parking at work. The RTA option may be especially good in inclement weather. Check out RTA monthly passes. Rail park 'n ride locations and the new CSU bus rapid line also should be researched.

RTA especially is a good option if you could read during your commute.

I would say your numbers are best case scenario...Time of day, sun glare, rain, construction, and large events will play into the amount of time you spend in your car.
