I thought the purpose of the thread was to discuss the lack of regional economic vision of Cleveland's leaders, not to engage in a mean-spirited screed about supposed fat, lazy, stupid, smelly, (insert your negative adjective here _________). The point is, maybe, if our leaders would invest in re-training/education of some of these secondary school-educated working stiffs Andrew talks about, the workforce would be more dynamic and able to handle more of a variety jobs.

Yep. I left in 1971, never came back except to visit. I and most of the people I grew up with spent our teenage years trying to decide whether to move to New York, Boston, Chicago, or California. I've lived in three of the four and am now in Chicago.

Yeah, this gets brought up with weird frequency too. It's hard being perfect.

How do Clevelanders settle instead of strive? Give us examples.

Yes, the sad part is that re-training/education those folks mean the leaders will actually have to do work.

Even in France, things are changing along those lines. I read this article today and thought you might find it of interest:

The French still love their cigarettes. But the once chic image is going up in smoke

I recently moved to the Cleveland area(Strongsville) from Cincinnati. The one thing I can say about the area is that it seems "clunky". There are great areas (Westlake, Rocky River, Lakewood) however the whole metro area seems like a big puzzle board that hasn't been put together properly. You have your typical suburban areas (North Royalton, Strongsville, Independence, Brecksville Seven Hills) and then you have weird areas that seem under developed ( Brook Park, Middleburg Heights, Parma) that seem to get in the way.

They should absolutely focus on marketing their cost of living. Other Midwestern cities like Columbus and Indianapolis have done it and now look at them.

I don't think this is accurate at all.
