Nice article, seemed pretty fair to me. Not overly flattering but realistic. Thanks for posting

Lmao, the guy was making it sound like they were going somewhere super exotic and luxurious. So tbh it was a little unfair. I enjoyed the article though. Cleveland is underrated. I've visited 3 times now and its so underrated I'm pretty much blown away every time.

It's been some years since I actually visited though and the last time I drove through it was in the dead of winter, which made it look kind of meh. So I appreciate the post reminding me of what the city has got. I forgot about that arcade! Absolutely stunning. Isn't there a hotel in there? I recall staying in something like a Marriott.

Come back, soon... the city, esp downtown, is changing so quickly that, if you've been away a few years, there's parts you may not even recognize...

... yes, the winter generally sucks in the CLE. Locals tend to hibernate although nowadays, inside the restaurants and bars, there's a pulse. Tower City, despite the disappearing retail, is still an amazing complex esp in winter where you can go from hotel (2 of them)-to-casino-to-Cavs game-to-food court (and a couple nice restaurants)-to Rapid Transit train... Friday and Saturday nights still generate considerable foot traffic downtown, Ohio City, Tremont and some other cool, close in neighborhoods. ... because of the indoor, stir-craziness of some locals, warm weather tends to bring a pent-up explosion of foot/auto traffic in many neighborhoods, ... especially the Flats, Edgewater Park and lately, North Coast Harbor, where a few new restaurants will be coming on line behind the Rock Hall.

Playhouse Square typically is busy on winter weekends, especially when there are Broadway Series performances or other popular events. Ditto on weekday nights.

On weekends, there typically are matinees and evening performances. Restaurant reservations are advisable, except perhaps at Yours Truly, which may not take reservations. YT is a very popular local chain of casual restaurants.

Free downtown bus trolleys facilitate moving around downtown. This is great year-round, but especially in bad weather. Trolleys stop at Tower City, just to the left as you exit the main Public Square entrance.

You're exactly right. Winter is a busy season for PHS' theaters (and I like the new(er) Yours Truly restaurant there). Also, a few doors down, Heinen's downtown supermarket/food court is awesome ANY season...

... In addition, our amazing orchestra in its amazing Severance Hall digs is humming during the colder months (as opposed to summer when, like the swallows, they migrate south to outdoor Blossom Music Center in Summit County).

article lost credibility when it said the beaches were nice. Not the kind of beaches I go to, Edgewater dirty, Headlands as rocky as you can get.

I go to Edgewater quite often, it is not dirty any more, perhaps 5 years ago. Water quality is improving also, in about 10 years, combined stormwater runoff will more than meet EPA guidelines.

Headlands is a nice beach, granted there are some rocks, we're not advertising like its the Caribbean or Hawaii. But for the midwest, it is a great place to hang out and swim, as is Edgewater as long as you pay attention to Nowcast.

Playhouse Square can be a bit dead in the winter months Monday to Wednesday, but things really pick up after that. Friday Saturday and Sunday are typically quite lively.

For Yours Truly, I'm not sure they even take reservations. But it definitely gets packed on weekend mornings to early afternoons. This includes the bar, the upstairs, and the downstairs. My favorite spot to go recently has been Corbos. I didn't even realize there was one right there on Euclid. I love grabbing a coffee, a pastry, and stocking up on pepperoni bread.

I never really cared about the trolleys, but now living down here, I love them. I like to walk to the Warehouse District or the Flats, but sometimes at night when I'm tired I really don't want to walk back. Then I remember, i don't have to! And I also don't have to pay! Anecdotally I see a lot of people using them too and the frequency is pretty good. I think it's great for residents and visitors alike.

So yes, downtown is great and only getting better. If you haven't visited recently, you aren't up to date.
