I am traveling to Cleveland next weekend, want to know which is safer coming in by Amtrack which gets into Cleveland at 3:30 AM or taking Greyhound bus which gets in around 2:30 PM. I am staying downtown near Tower City.

Thanks for your help

You mean safer like crime-wise?

If your going downtown, there both basically in the same neighborhood except Amtrak is a little north in downtown. Greyhound is right downtown but a little East. I would say they are equally safe, except that Amtrak gets in at 3:30 Am, which isnt a good time anywhere. Still downtown I would think you are safe. Tower City is in walking distance of both.

If I were you I'd do the Greyhound and get into town at a decent hour. No way would I walk around downtown Cleveland at 3:30 in the morning.

I was downtown w/my three drunk, immature friends at 230am after the New Kids concert and there wasn't a soul around. We were on what i believe is the south side of Tower City, towards the parking garage. One guy walked by w/his headphones on and a few cars drove by at a high rate of speed, other than that, uneventful.

Thanks for your help. I contacted the hotel I am staying at, they suggested taking a cab from the bus station. (I didn't mention the train). I also read from another message board that there are cabs at the Amtrak station when the trains come in, which seems to be at the wee hours of the morning.

I've walked from the Greyhound station to Tower City several times earlier this year. (Arriving between 9-10pm, and leaving around 4pm) If the weather is cooperative, I'd recommend the walk. (but I like walking and architecture...)

Just purchase my tickets on Greyhound, been reading horror stories about the Chester Street station. I am coming in around 2:30 PM, so I am glad that it is during day light hours. How safe is the bus station; I read about policemen there. Will I be able to get a taxi right outside without any problems.

What kind of horror stories? When I was there it was just like any bus station with lots of people getting on, getting off, or waiting for their bus. I think you'll be fine - especially during the afternoon. Just be aware of your surroundings like you should in any city.

I don't know how easy it is to get a taxi at the station. I didn't look for one when I was there.

I am not trying to be funny or insensitive here....being born and raised in the suburbs (eastside) I recently dropped a man off at the bus station. It was 10:00 pm and he said that I would need an escort (meaning him) to walk me to and from the parking lot which happened to be 100 ft away. He happened to be a black male (I am white) about my age 50-ish. There were 2 cops and about 10 people just hanging out at the entrance. I decided I would just drop him off at the door. Would somone have bothered me??? I do not know but I am 6ft tall, about 200lbs, with some street sense and it made me nervous.

I did make the trip through Greyhound. I had no problems; the buses were clean, people polite. I felt very safe. The bus stations both in Buffalo and Cleveland were nice and clean, sure put Rochester to shame. I had no trouble getting taxi service from the bus station to my hotel. I would do this again, but I did this during the day, not sure if I would do it at night.
