I am planning a summer vacation for next year. I want to rent a beach house along the NC coast for my family. I just want a nice and quiet place for families. I am willing to spend from $2000-3000.00 a week. Could someone provide information on which beaches/islands are considered vacation-worthy? Thank you.

The Southern Outer Banks which is also know as the Crystal Coast is a great place to have a family vacation.

This map will orient you. You can find lots of pictures and information at this site.

You can check my Emerald Isle Travel Guide (http://coastalnc.org/emeraldislenctravelguidecd - broken link) for further information.

Emerald Isle is an especially nice place for families. The town has a long paved bike trail and there are some amazing beaches to wander. The water along the Crystal Coast is just unbelievable.

Though some people complain about the summer traffic, my experience as a year round resident is that our visitors create very little traffic.

There are plenty of things to do at the beach, and if you get bored you can always wander down to Beaufort and soak up some of its history.

I think we have all the beach that you might need.

Here's a Beaufort Travel Guide (http://coastalnc.org/beaufortnctravelguidecd - broken link) in case you want to enjoy its sites.

I would look at the other end of Bogue Banks to Atlantic Beach, or better yet, the communities between AB and EI like Pine Knoll Shore, Salter Path, or Indian Beach, as well.Traffic is relative, and though EI is not I-40 or I-95, it's not exactly light by any means either.

If you all you want is beach and seclusion then look into renting a place on Topsail

We've always enjoyed Carolina Beach because there are quite a few things to do within walking distance. We generally park the car for most of the week and are able to walk just about everywhere we need to go. We may do a day trip to Wilmington, or run down to the Aquarium or out to dinner...but there are restaurants within walking distance (El Zarape is awesome!). There is also a boardwalk there, with a few carnival rides. Just really depends on the age of your family, and the types of activities you all would enjoy most.

How about Bald Head for a value home rental? We are spending our 3 and last night here 2night, and really enjoyed ourselves. Is it too late to buy a home to rent out?

Can't agree more about the Crystal Coast. Love it, love it, love it. We have been staying right about in the middle of the island in Indian Beach for several years now, and the wide open, glorious beach is worth the 11+ hour trip from Ohio. You will not regret it! We are going back in October for our anniversary. DH could not have gotten me a better gift! Points!!!

If you want quiet, I would say Hatteras Island. There are things to do there, but it is in no way a Wilmington, Morehead City or even Nags Head. Very residential, few commercial things. Not remote like Ocracoke, but you'll have to "bring your fun". Plus it is right in range with your price

We have rented ocean front houses on most of the NC beaches. Our favorite is Oak Island, about 40 minutes south of the Wilmington area. The beach faces south, resulting in about 60 percent of the typical Atlantic surf. The water depth is such that one can wade out further, compared to Outer Banks. There are no boardwalks, bright lights, etc.--just beach and notably fewer people. We enjoy the west most part of the island--you have the beach to yourself. Golf is about a drive of 30-60 minutes.

I agree with Oak Island and look at the house "A Tropical Paradise." 6 bedrooms on the ocean, spittin distance to the pier and a bike ride from the Dairy Queen.
