Absolutely you can get birds to come to your apt balcony feeder!! First, are you interested in certain birds or a general mix?? Most of us like to serve a birdseed that is attractive to the most no. of species.

Black OIL sunflower seed is highly attractive to NC birds, such as cardinals, chickadees, titmice, woodpeckers, but also to blue jays and other larger birds. Of course the only one that needs a special feeder is the ruby-throated hummingbird.

Check stores like Lowes or Home Depot...they have wide varieties of seeds and feeders; most have a sample display so you can see the feeder hanging up.

Have fun, it is a great pasttime!!

You may get some complaints from neighbors about litter and debris, especially if there are balconies below yours or downwind. A friend of mine had to remove hers, so consider your particular location before you put it up.
