for me, there are a few parts I can't imagine. One, is leaving a state job in a labor market depression. Two, is moving to a really expensive area with 5 kids, and no clue about your future employment.

Exactly which small towns were you thinking about? That is the first thing I'd like to know. Eastern North Carolina looks great if all you're looking at are Chamber Of Commerce pictures.

If anyone is looking for some good old hot outside hard labor that may be available in the Wilmington area -

As a suggestion-

The new conversion from coal to gas at the Progress Energy Sutton plant may be hiring-
It will be this sub contracting firm and you may need to dance through the system to get the proper contact info - It does not appear to list this project yet, but there are hiring signs onsite.

Should be fairly substantial work for a couple years if one can handle the weather conditions.

Also the new I-40 bypass interchange extensions are gearing up on 74/76 in Leland, and at 87 maco rd and rt.17

master contractor is Barnhill for this project - Looks like bridge form carpenters could get a foot in the door. Dont know the subs for Barnhill at this time.

New housing growth has been steady this season (2011) in the Leland area although in my opinion it is not accelerating, and I would err to the side of declining new starts as inventory has been notably building going into the summer.

I am a lowly utility locator in this area since 2000 and all I have to go by as an overview of the demographics.

Outside of this outlook there are no major corporations on the horizon coming to this region (upper brunwick cty). The primary growth in this locale has been for general service needs afforded to a large sunbelt migration of retirees. That trend has been substantial over the decade since I arrived.

Well thats all on this topic for now.

I am presently in this city forum to see what others are saying in regards to relocating back north of all places.

Ha !

I personally need more shade and less heat so I can enjoy my work and off time more in the great outdoors.
