Today I did a live radio interview with Margo Schulze-Haugen, Chief of the Highly Migratory Species Dept, National Marine Fisheries Service. Although our subject matter was North Carolina giant bluefin tuna this great white shark was brought up. Although great whites off the NC coast are not common it is not unusal and is a clear indication of a lot of "bait" in the water. Winter time is when these sharks show up.

I did not realize this was a rare event. Though practically every shark encounter is initally "A Great White", (ala copperhead and water mocassins) eliminating the bogus ID's still, I thought we had plenty of them off the coast. Learn something every day!

Why are people surprised by this? You do realize Sharks live in the ocean, right? Do you realize bears live in the woods ?

This was 25 miles off the coast! Sharks sometimes roam the breakers right off the beach !

To me, this report is not "news worthy". Please tell me something that I do not already know !
