Dogs are considered "Personal property" as well and you will pay a annual tax on them as well.

Maybe in your county. Pitt County has never asked about our dog. I even called to inquire about a license when we first moved here.

You also need to look at the cost of fees to transfer real estate. Transfer fees in MD are brutal compared to NC.

Water and electric bills can be a consideration too.

When you're looking for homes make sure you're not within 2 miles of a pig farm. I don't know how many pig farms there are in that area but you will know it if you're too close. At our first house we were about a mile away from one and you smelled it on a regular basis. It could get vile at times. Our new house is about 4 miles away from the closest pig farm and we've only smelled country air one time in 18 months.

But, you house will cost you a lot less in in N.C so your bill will be less.
