Hi all!

We are taking a day trip to Wrightsville beach and are looking for a campsite to just be able to park in and make some s'mores at the end of the day. Any suggestions?

I know Wrightsville doesn't have camping - is paying for a tent site at a nearby campsite the best/only option?

Thanks!

I did not see anything about open fires on the Town Web-site. The beaches usually have FAQ's on their beach rules. I suspect you are correct about the camp-site.

As a resident of the coast, I get very nervous when people want build open fires at the beach. The wind is usually blowing, and one cinder can easily blow into dune-grass and start a fire. I'd prefer you end your day with a snack like ice cream rather than s'mores. I think that is a reasonable sacrifice to keep the beaches safe from fires.

The best I can see is that there is a small picnic shelter at the Town of Wrightsville Beach complex at 98 Bob Sawyer Drive. It's to the east of the parking lot and softball diamond. I suggest telephoning the town to see if they permit charcoal grills, or if there is a grill there. The telephone is (910) 256-7925 .

I'd recommend heading to Fort Fisher Rec area...if you have an off road vehicle you can drive onto the beach...here's a site...

If you want a campground with water and beach access, try Carolina Beach State Park or if you are military Fort Fisher Military Rec area....both are beautiful spots on the water.
