Long story short, I would like to consider retiring in coastal NC. Mainly looking at the Wilmington Hampstead area, but not to thepoint of actually trying to find a home there. One thing I have not been able to find on my ownis a place to buy supplies for parrots. We have an Umbrella Cockatoo, and a couple smaller parrots. Looking for a place to buy food and toy supplies. Driving a distance is tolerable but would prefer something within an hour driving distance. Anyone else in the Wilmington area with parrots have a lead on any good places?

What do you need that a big box pet store cannot supply? The Petco on College Road sells bird supplies.

Could you live with mail-ordering anything specialized? For example, we have found that our fussy cat will eat only certain flavors. We just order 4 cases at a time order from Petco.

There is a Pet Supermarket near the Mall in Wilmington. There is a PetSmart on New Center Drive.

There used to be a Wild Birds Unlimited in Ogden, but I think the closest now is in New Bern or Greenville.

I could use the Pet Superstores, but many of them (at least around here in Maryland) do not carry the better quality pellets (Roddybush and the like). That may be because there are specialty shops around here. They can be hard to find, even around here, and are mainly found via word of mouth from other pet keepers. The toys selection at the bigger box stores leaves a lot to be desired as well. They tend to carry items for the smaller birds that they usually sell, but not so much for the larger birds that really do require much more stimulating activites to avoid the problems that come from boredum. We can use mailorder, but silly as it sounds, our birds basically pick out their toys. Nothing is worse than spending $20 or more on a single toy and your bird is either afraid of it or has no interest in it. I do appreciate the information though. Better to know of a hurdle ahead of time. My wife is pretty good at building toys that our birds are interested in, so the answer may be to buy toy parts in bulk and start building our own. This is just one of the first of many move related question I will have on this forum. Thank you all once again.

There is a bird breeder called Heavenly Feathers in Jacksonville that might order for you: Home
