Yeah, NC is not where you want to be if you're afraid of the potential for hurricanes. We're one of the most frequently hit states. I believe it's, in order of hurricane landfalls, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina. And damaging winds certainly do come inland, too. Look up what Hurricane Fran did to Raleigh.

I think the context of the OP was that they didn't want to be "right" on the coast...hence the floodplain statement. Like a barrier island? Obviously the entire East Coast and Gulf Coast can get hit by a Hurricane...most anyone in their 50's would know that.

That being said....I would think the Hampstead area would fit the requirements she listed...close to the coast, close to an Arts Community, fairly affordable. And Hampstead fares pretty well during Hurricanes.

Wrong. N.C. has 2 VERY DIFFERENT coatal areas. From VA to to Wilmington and from Wilmington to S.C.

The VA to Wilmington is called Hurricane Alley for a reason. Not so for the S.E coastline.

Before I mover here from MD I researched and found that MD has MORE hurricane activity then the SE NC coast.

Can you cite that source? Was it your realtor?

Why is that even a valid comparison if your comparing the entire coast of NC from Wilmington to VA versus the 45 miles or so that is South of Wilmington to the border of SC?

Probably in reference to the elbow or heel, if you will, that sticks out farther east which does have a history of more hurricane landfalls than the coast to its southwest.

" Was it your realtor?
Cheap shot and not at all appropriate.

"Why is that even a valid comparison...."

If it has to be explained to you, you wouldn't understand anyway.
