I currently live in Washington NC, but I am looking for another coastal town. Washington has its pros, but only a small portion is on the water, and it has its fair share of run down, empty buildings, and bad neighborhoods.

A place in the Inner banks that is directly on the water, or something on the Outer Banks. Im looking for a town size from about anything under 15 thousand, but will definitely consider something higher if it meets the criteria. A town that is well kept, has very low crime, and decent housing prices. A place that doesn't seem like a ghost town in the winter (Ocracoke). Historical avenues like we have in Beaufort County (Bath/Washington) would be great, but not a deal breaker. A place that has a great public education system, and a range of activities to keep one entertained. This is a broad range, but a town that has job opportunities for college grads is also on the list. Im pretty much looking for the hidden gem of Eastern North Carolina.

I think you already in the right place...Washington/Bath area is the hidden gem. Washington (City) schools are not too bad, and the area is affordable. It has a ton of waterfront, and a large historic district as well...and its 30 minutes to Greenville, which provides more job opportunities. Bath has a good K-8 school and most of it is either historical or waterfront...very small town oriented.

Besides that, maybe Swansboro, with its location near Camp Lejeune.
