Hi everyone!

What is the general feel of Greenville/Winterville?

Is it a progressive area? I'm looking for somewhere with a funky vibe, good health food store, farmers markets, yoga, etc.

How is Greenville/Winterville in this regard?

Thanks a lot!

Small Southern ENC city (former tobacco), built around the university and medical school. Large proportion of the population works the two organizations just mentioned or the overblown Greenville Utilities or small feeder businesses. Another large segment of the population is on government assistance and Medicaid, which for years was a huge source of revenue for the health care community...

It has progressed alot from where it was circa 1980, that's for sure. But I wouldn't call it progressive in the sense you probably mean. I'm unclear what "funky vibe" means but it brings to mind cities in the Pacific NW or NorCal. Greenville is basically a college/hospital town.

Winterville is a small suburb that grew next to Greenville as people started fleeing rising crime/taxes/ decaying schools.

Thanks a lot!
It might help to know where you are coming from and what more specifically you're looking for. I have a feeling I know what you're looking for and you might find that in very small pockets, but just not at the scale and degree you are hoping for.
