My husband and I will be relocating to new bern NC in a few years. I was just wondering what areas we would have to travel to for work or if there were good opportunities for us in the area. My husband is an advance/intermediate EMT and I am an RN.

Are you really committed to New Bern while you still have to work? New Bern is a small city compared to Greenville or Jacksonville. It is impossible to say what the job market will be like in several years, but certainly Greenville, at an hour away, or Jacksonville, at about 45 minute will offer numerically more opportunities than New Bern. I would be prepared to also search for jobs in Newport, Havelock or Morehead City.

BTW, the largest medical employer in ENC is Vidant, and they are cutting costs by closing small facilities.

CarolinaEast Health System is the fairly big hospital in New Bern on Neuse Blvd. I would think there are a few positions available. Carolinaeasthealth.com I believe is the site. Various nursing homes and such in the area too if you couldn't find the exact type of job you wanted. Hope that helps.

I am a NC Paramedic and a RN. I am not that familiar with the job market in New Bern. I can not tell you anything you probably do not already known about your career fields. EMS is almost always looking for help. If not full time, then part time that more than likely will lead to full time. There are a number of private carriers as well.

Nursing is whole other ball game. There are almost always nursing jobs available, especially if you are willing to work med surg nights in the local hospitals. Just a quick, unfiltered, search on Indeed turned up 96 nursing jobs in New Bern. EMT jobs only got 2 hits for paramedics.

You say you will be moving in a "few years"! The whole world can change in a few years. I suggest you wait until you are a few months out before to do any serious job searches.
