Help! I am trying to figure out when Hwy 70 bypassed Dover. I *think* I remember that beach traffic used to go through Dover/Cove City/etc to get to Morehead City and that 70 was built to bypass that area in the early 70s, but I don't know if I remember this correctly. Can anyone confirm?
P.S. The Google doesn't seem to remember this, so I may be wrong.
"In 1979, US 70 was placed on new freeway from west of Dover to the recent New Bern freeway. Much of the old route became SR 1005 Sunset Blvd, but some remained NC 55 and Glenburnie became part of US 70 Business."
This is perfect! It also answers a few other VERY specific questions I had. Thank you!
