Thanks for the link about the development. I put my Jeep in four wheel drive and drove the property this weekend. The development is way too small for a big box store. I know that the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission was trying to find a developer to build a "regional" shopping center with big box stores near the intersection of 211 and 17 at Supply. With the county taking over the commission, I wonder what is the status of that idea?

I'm sure once the county hires a new economic development director the recruitment of new retail will continue to be a priority. But its all about the demographics...if Target (or whoever) thinks there is a site in Brunswick County that fits what they are looking for as far as population density, income, etc., then they will locate a store here. Otherwise, they won't. The county can pitch to them, but ultimately its the numbers that have to work. Personally, I think its still a ways off before that happens.
The sign on 211 says the Lowes will open in spring 2016. The Tractor Supply in Shallotte is almost ready to open and it just broke ground a few months ago.

Yeah, they haven't tried very hard to get it built quickly. Not sure what the deal is.

I believe the first developer went into bankruptcy. I talked to a an old frat brother from college in the retail site development and he said it was a "risky" location. He said that the traffic/vehicle data from NC was low and the demographics were not good.
