The Kure Beach shooting was an incident between 2 visitors to the area. Not all tourists are from out of state, btw. And references to tourists aren't meant to imply tourists are necessarily the ones committing the crimes. They are often victims are crimes, usually things like break-ins and petty theft, because they are on vacation and let their guard down.

I don't think anyone groups those into violent crimes...

What's happening here and why is violence so out of control??

Downtown and near the hospital are public housing projects, Kure Beach was an incident between out-of-towners. The Ogden shooting is the only one that is problematic, but my knee-jerk reaction to stories like that one is "somebody was buying or selling drugs and things went sideways".

But if you prefer to believe the greater Wilmington area is a seething hotbed of violent crime, where no neighborhood is safe, well that's your prerogative. I've been here an awfully long time and I guess I'm just numbed by daily violence. Now excuse me, I've got to go check on my meth cooker and then fire off a few rounds at my neighbor's car.
