Good point Francois but a lot of people who live in NJ and NY follow the NC forum religiously. I will take your suggestion though.

Furniture/clothing can be replaced, photos of your kids and sentimental things can never be replaced.
So very sorry this happened to you.

But, Thank you for a helpful heads up reminder to all of us to do thorough research on movers. I have heard similar stories.

I had a navy move once and as the way understaffed guys were about through, they said, "We will see you tomorrow when we deliver the load."

I FOOLISHLY stated, "Oh, this is all going into storage, I wont be getting it out for about six months."

The guys exchanged looks, and I knew I was screwed.

When we finally got our household goods shipment, EVERYTHING of value was stolen.

$5900 to move from NJ to NC??? We paid $3000 to move from LI to NC and the only thing amiss after the move was a lampshade that got crushed. We had a 3 BR 2 BA house with a finished basement that got moved.

A quick googling of moving companies will bring up many stories similar to this. Either they lose your stuff or they hold it for more money. I'm sure we're going to end up using a POD or something along those lines.
