Good point Francois but a lot of people who live in NJ and NY follow the NC forum religiously. I will take your suggestion though.

I've gone to the police in 3 states as well as the Dept. of Transportation in Washington. Very similar responses from all. Happens all the time and don't expect to see your furniture back, go to your Insurance company. Ins company wants receipts for everything. We have receipts for big items but quite a few boxes of clothes we don't keep receipts if they fit... Crazy process to say the least
Furniture/clothing can be replaced, photos of your kids and sentimental things can never be replaced.
So very sorry this happened to you.
But, Thank you for a helpful heads up reminder to all of us to do thorough research on movers. I have heard similar stories.
$5900 to move from NJ to NC??? We paid $3000 to move from LI to NC and the only thing amiss after the move was a lampshade that got crushed. We had a 3 BR 2 BA house with a finished basement that got moved.

A quick googling of moving companies will bring up many stories similar to this. Either they lose your stuff or they hold it for more money. I'm sure we're going to end up using a POD or something along those lines.
