We're considering purchasing a home in the Villas at Corolla Bay as a vacation rental. Never owned a vacation rental before so we're looking for any helpful advice or cautions. Also interested if anyone that owns property specifically in the Villas at Corolla Bay could give us their prospective on home ownership there. Would you buy there again? Any regrets? What mistakes can we avoid? Thanks in advance.

I don't have the resources to buy a rental investment. However, I have friends that own a house on the OBX. They do a huge amount of work preparing and then winterizing the property. I'd ask the Villas how much maintenance they do, versus how much you have to do yourself. For example, would they board up the windows if a hurricane is coming, or would you have to do that yourself.
Assume you will have to replace heat pumps more frequently than you do inland because the ocean air corrodes them. One other bit of advice is to assume that people will steal things that are not bolted down.
