We are looking primarily for a pediatrician for our young child, and also for a family practice or GP for myself and my spouse. Generally healthy, just need your basic yearly checkups and someone to go to in case of illness.
I attempted to set up a pediatric appointment going through the Vidant Medical Group, but it was horrible experience! I got transferred about 7 different times, the appointment setter couldn't even find a working number to get me through to someone, and when I finally got to talk to someone who could help me, it was with ECU pediatrics. They couldn't even give me the name of the doctor who would be seeing my child! They said it could be any one of the residents and we'd probably see someone different each time. Not thrilled about that.
I have heard good reviews for Pirate Pediatrics. Any other suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!

I understand the issue with a teaching hospital, that the residents need to gain experience.
If you don't hear about Pirate Pediatrics, I'd suggest looking at HealthGrade.com for a Board-Certified pediatrician who was recommended by a reviewer. I found 21 possibilities. You might narrow it down more if your child has a specific health issue:
Our Family Doctor is Dr. Mark Cervi, which I highly recommend. Have been seeing him since January, 2001 and absolutely trust him completely with every aspect of my health care. He is a great family man as well as a Primary Care Doctor. He is actually an Internist. His wife, Noreen also works in the practice as a FNP. They have a fantastic staff as well! They are located at 2460 Emerald Drive off Arlington Blvd. He doesn't even seem like my doctor sometimes as he is so personable and has a great sense of humor! I have lupus and also have to be involved with the pain clinic and he is always connected with all my doctors and care. He is listed under Carolina Internal Medicine and is a part of Vidant Health Group, affiliated with Vidant Health Systems. Good Luck!

One problem: Dr. Mark Cervi isn't accepting new patients. I called his office a month ago to see if he was accepting new patients since I'm gonna be moving back to NC around spring of next year and I was told that he's not taking new patients at this time. His office is now called Vidant Internal Medicine.

As health care economics is driving further consolidations, the personal service people were used to is going to disappear unfortunately.
Good Luck. I've been through 3 pediatricians and couldn't get past the or even to the first appt for them. I drive my son and daughter to their normal doctor in Durham just to avoid all the crap I've dealt with. Long appt times, waited literally 2 hours at one, and had one that couldn't fax anything even though they said they did. Just a mess administratively.
