During AASHTO's Fall 2020 meeting, they approved an application from NCDOT to decommission US-70 Business and US-258 Business in Kinston. According to NCDOT, Kinston had asked for this in order to reduce traffic through downtown.
NCDOT will hold a virtual informational meeting on December 3 to give an update on the ongoing NC-12 "jug handle" bridge project in Rodanthe. Completion is currently expected by late 2021.
A contract has been awarded for improvements to US-64 in Washington & Tyrrell counties. Work can start on June 1 and is expected to be finished by September 30, 2022.
NCDOT has awarded a contract to convert the current intersections at Chauncey Town Road and Old Lake Road on US-74/76 (Future I-74) at Lake Waccamaw into Reduced-Conflict Intersections (RCI). Construction is set to begin in June and will wrap up in October.
This setup is temporary until the Chauncey Town Road intersection is converted into an interchange and a bridge carrying Old Lake Road over US-74/76 is built. That contract is scheduled to be awarded in June 2022.
