I have been a regular visitor to this forum for a while . Thank you all for the valuable information posted here. I recently got a little piece of land in Beaufort area. I am planning to build a house around 2000 square feet in the near future. The problem is I have no any idea about house build. Could someone please give me a recommendation on builders or contractors ? By the way, do people build hurricane prove house in this area? How necessary it is? Please help. Thank you very much.

I believe the local building codes specify hurricane-proofing. For example, our roof joists have extra reinforcing to prevent the roof panels from flying off. Our garage door has reinforcing bars to prevent it from being blown off.

They are necessary, not just for your house, but to prevent flying debris from damaging your neighbors' property and risking their lives.

I do not know a lot of builders, but you might contact our builder. They build mostly spec homes, but they do build on your own lot with their standard planes: Custom Built Homes | H&H Homes

Other builders (local to Beaufort) who turn up in a Google search include JC Jackson and Archie Davis:

I don't know your budget. But JC Jackson appears to build for the modest budget under $200K, H&H will cost in the middle range, and Archie Davis is more a high-end custom builder.

Golden age, thank you so much for your good advices. I have checked these websites. Looks like there are not many builders down here and most of them only build big fancy houses. It seems like my choices are very limited. Maybe I am wrong. Hopefully, some nice local folks can post more advices here. Please help. Thank you in advance.
