As I said in the other thread, there are very few age-restricted communities, as most of the beach areas are family-oriented. South Carolina, Delaware and Florida offer far more of what you are seeking.

The rental communities I found which are income-restricted, 55+:

1. Lake Ridge Commons, listed as "age-restricted" and low-income. I will let you determine whether it is suitable: http://excelpropertymanagement.com/i...D/45/index.htm

2. Sunset Creek in Sunset Beach, supposed to open in May, 2016: http://excelpropertymanagement.com/i...D/89/index.htm

Among the few other age-restricted places is the Jensen's Mobile Home Park in Hampstead. People own their units, but rent the land. You might find an occasional rental.

There are vast numbers of condos and townhomes for rent in Wilmington and the plantations in Brunswick County. They may have a majority of senior residents, but they are not age-restricted. You could have kids and teenagers stomping on the floor above you and playing in the pool. Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach is one I like which has condos starting as low as $89,000. I like it because the condos have a separate pool, and an indoor pool. You could probably find year-round rentals there.

I also found the following HUD-subsidized place in Wilmington. Please let us know if you want market-rent or low-income places. As far as I know there are no market-rent age-restricted apartments in Coastal North Carolina. While it is a great place for seniors to live, it is so family-oriented, that it is not economically feasible for developers to exclude families. It is not like Florida.

In case the links do not work, I copied over the Excel Property management properties in eastern NC:
North Carolina

(Eastern Region)
Ahoskie High School Senior Apts. – Ahoskie
Ellsworth Commons – Greenville
Enfield School Apartments – Enfield
Madison Place – Rocky Mount
Renaissance Commons – Elizabeth City
The Highlands – Goldsboro
Woodland Olney – Woodland

(Southeastern Region)
Baker House – Lumberton
Lake Ridge Commons – Wilmington
Pembroke Senior Village – Pembroke
Pineridge Apartments – Hope Mills
Robert Taylor Senior – Wilmington
Sacred Heart Villas – Southport
Sunset Creek Commons – Sunset Beach
Tall Oaks – Elizabethtown

Many of these places sound more like public housing for the extremely poor, although the Sacred Heart Villas in Southport sound extremely nice. I do not know of market-rate rentals that are exclusive for seniors 55+.

Also a better link to Sunset Creek Commons: http://bit.ly/28IKQsb
