Brig. Gen. Julian D. Alford, base commander, responded to those comments on Camp Lejeune’s Facebook page, saying:

“There have reportedly been multiple comments that the decision to remain in place at Camp Lejeune is “all about the money.” Federal funding was authorized prior to Tuesday to support IF a decision was made to evacuate the base. Let me be clear, the decision NOT to mandate evacuation was made after my assessment of the situation. As mentioned in my earlier statement, this base is well-prepared to face the oncoming storm. The commands and personnel who remain are well-postured to react to situations and will be working together, like Marines always do in battle, to get through Hurricane Florence. Those personnel who determined they would rather depart were and are allowed to do so with enough warning to find shelter where they deem most suitable. Some Marines have nowhere to go, or no car to get there, so we will take care of them here aboard the base.”

Yet down the road roughly 40 miles inland Cherry Point was evacuated ?

If anyone wanted to leave they could. Whats your point? From the sound of things, I'd have rather evacuated TO Lejeune.

Brigadier General Alford has a boss, and his boss has a boss. Permission to keep the base open was granted by his superiors. Perhaps he was ordered to keep it open and make it work. We'll never know.

Who is us and what do you know?

My husband was a career Army officer, and even though he was friends with superior grade officers, they couldn't always figure out "Who shot John?"

I pray no one gets in life threatening trouble becuase of this idiot!!!
Um, have you ever been into the barracks at a base before? They are basically cinder block. Probably the safest place you could be. Also many of the young service members have nowhere to go, and make little money and could have a hard time getting back to base.

Plus Marines are the tip of the spear, the elite fighting force of our branches. Leaving operations whole scale during a hurricane really isn't their thing. Nor should it be .

I ask you go back and read my post's to get the full understanding of it.

Save the speech for the recruiting . Yes I have been in and to a "Barracks" and I have been to,on, and all around Lejeune many times over. I again will ask you why Cherry Point was evacuated and not Lejeune, are there not Marines at Cherry Point are the Marines at Cherry Point more important than the ones at Lejeune ? As while I understand letting the personel stay that had no where to go his actions all so endangered the welfare of the families of many a Marine under his Command .Many that were aloud to leave had a restriction of 450 miles to evacuate a storm 425 miles wide and the ones that did make it out could not physically make it back in time for Formation ,many of those Men and their families lost alot in this storm and were/are trying to deal with that. These families ,Marine families know how to sacrifice for their country but it would be nice if the Marine Corps looked out for the families of the Marines that are doing the work. So for those of you that think I am just attacking with out any knowledge of the Corps you are mistaken , save the speeches for the next recruit.

If a bunch of well trained marines can't put sand in bags, start a generator, and eat MREs for a few days, we're doomed.

Right. Whatever you say. You have absolutely nothing. You didn't answer my question. If you know, knew anything about this matter, you wouldn't have asked.
