They didn't evacuate Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS when Katrina hit. The results were not pretty. Although not much info about Keesler was ever published.

They evacuated Cherry Point, though I’m not sure what that really means.

Different Commanders. This guy has no concern for the families of Marine personnel stationed there. I -95 is closed in NC and he is calling the all clear at 9: am today! He wants everyone back in 48 hours.

As a Marine combat veteran I've seen my colleagues face much worse. We have a mission and nothing including weather is a permissible deterrent to continue that mission.

BS, I fully understand when there is a Military situation .These personnel were / are not deployed and evacuated(the whole of Onslow County was evacuated bye order of the Governor) to protect their families ....the families of "Military Personnel who give to this country in a Great but unrecognized way" ...many of the men under his Command lost homes and valuables and I pray no one lost family . So you are saying the Cherry Point was wrong to evacuate but Lejeune was right not too?

I don't think he's the idiot. That article says:

Those personnel who determined they would rather depart were and are allowed to do so with enough warning to find shelter where they deem most suitable. Some Marines have nowhere to go, or no car to get there, so we will take care of them here aboard the base.”

Fahy also pointed out that although some Marines were given the opportunity to leave, roads might become dangerous with the weather, traffic may get heavier as drivers leave the area, hotels may not have any vacancies and fuel supplies might become overwhelmed.

The base has power generators, water treatment facilities, food halls, emergency shelters and barracks that may be used at some point during the hurricane.

The OP obviously assumes that the base commander made this decision. Not likely. He got his orders from Washington.
