I know there are a few retail stores but are there any future plans in adding more? Is walmart the only place to go for all the essential needs? Where we live there are targets.tj maxx. etc.. I know we can drive to jacksonville or morehead but was just only curious if there were future plans on expanding in swansboro..
We just sent an offer on a house on elgin rd in hubert/swansboro area and very excited..

I wouldn't expect to see any big box retail development in Swansboro any time soon.

Target and TJ Maxx seem to cluster in denser urban area. Swansboro is just too small. However you will see 3 dollar stores. The dollar stores offer a few groceries like bread and milk, but no produce or fresh meat, kitchen-ware, casual clothing etc. They are good for intermediate shopping, like when you run out of milk between grocery runs.

The realty of retail is that for good or bad, retail ended up in Jacksonville, Greenville, and Morehead City. All those are 45 minutes or so from New Bern, dooming New Bern’s chance for a large national retail presence. The same goes for Swanquarter and it’s proximity to Jacksonville/MHC.
