We have been looking at Coastal towns near SC border, and now wanting to expand the "Wish List". Any input that would fit the bill ?. Thanks ~BB

I'm not sure what a "power boat lake community" is, but i'm pretty sure there isn't a lake of any size in Brunswick County.

Lake Waccamaw does allow power boats in the state park. I am not sure how much housing you would find around the lake, other than vacation cabins. It is pretty far from the beach.

Boiling Spring Lakes in Brunswick County is more like what you apparently want. When we drove thru the area, it had many boats in the yards.

Lake Waccamaw is way more than 20 minutes from the beach, and the lakes at BSL are very small.

I haven't been to BSL for a few months, but I did find an article saying the lakes would be refilled by mid 2023. The dams failed during Hurricane Florence.

FWIW: Google has Lake Waccamaw about 40 miles and a 45 minute drive to Holden Beach.

I drove down NC 87 through Boling Springs Lakes today and the lake beds are becoming overgrown with vegetation. They will clean the beds before refilling the lakes. You have to feel for the residents who once owned lake front property.

I did not realize what had happened to the Big Lake in BSL when I recommended it. It does look sad.

Currently the best option for powerboating in Brunswick County is probably the Intracoastal Waterway rather than any lake. Further, I do not see a large lake in South Carolina that is close to the ocean.

Though not meeting the 20 minute to the beach criteria, the Neuse River, from New Bern to its mouth, meet most criteria of a large lake. In addition to New Bern, the small village of Oriental, has water centric developments.

If you have the budget, you could buy a house on the intracoastal waterway with a boat dock on Oak Island and be a 5 minute walk to the beach. Or buy a house in St. James, keep your boat at the marina there, and be 10 to 15 minutes to the beach.
