Hi! We are heading down to Wilmington area mid July to take a look at some communities, mainly Salters Haven. We will be traveling with our three children, 12, 9, and 7? Any other communities to recommend? We plan to relocate in about a year or two. We are open to building as well. Thanks!

What attracts you to Salter's Haven? Price range? School district requirements?

I notice that Salters Haven has a 75-slip marina, which looks terrific for a boat owner. They have the option of building custom homes (presumably in an upper price range), or of using a production builder like Logan Homes or Legacy by Bill Clark (starting in the mid $400K range).

I don't know of another development which has a dedicated marina, but there are several other marinas on the ICW in Hampstead. My main reservation about the Salter Path location is that it is adjacent to a couple of mobile home parks. A Google reviewer reported water in the streets, which I would take seriously. I also don't know whether the seafood processing place is still functioning (on Factory Road).

If you would like a more private location with day slips and a boat storage area, check Summerhouse on Everett Bay in Holly Ridge. It will have some of the same builders. It is in Onslow County, so it will have a different school system.

If you are looking for a upscale neighborhoods closer to the center of Wilmington, try Landfall, or several of the Porters Neck neighborhoods.
