There was a great photo on Facebook yesterday from someone at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport. She photographed the upward trajectory of the missile from the F-22. Then a photo of the explosion which happened south of Myrtle Beach.
I am sorry I can't repost her pictures. I am grateful to our Air Force and Navy, and hope we never again see an event like that.
I assume some other Brunswick County residents also saw the balloon.

We were at Costco in MB, left the store and looked up in the sky to see 4-5 contrails. Finally spotted the balloon and realized the jets were circling it. Several neighbors had been viewing it from the Community Beach House and got great shots of the F22 shooting it down.
The Sunset Beach Police Dept sent out a FB edict not to touch any debris found on the beach. We are to contact the police if anything is found.
How 'bout them Chinese? Sending a spy balloon into US airspace, then trying to tell us it's a weather balloon. Ha-ha! Sure it is. What does the US think it's going to learn by picking up the pieces of a balloon that's been shot down and blown to bits? Why couldn't they launch a drone up there, lasso the effing thing, bring it down to earth and then study it? Fill it full of disinformation and relaunch it so the Chinese get corrupted data that they may not know is corrupted? Who's in charge of these things?
..... Why couldn't they launch a drone up there, lasso the effing thing, bring it down to earth and then study it?....
I'm sure the military considered all the options. We have military unmanned aircraft that can fly to 60,000 feet, but they were not designed to tow something that was 200 feet tall and weighed a couple of tons.
Just had to post this......that would of been the view from my yard
