Agreed. This seems more like an attempt to get that recent graduate that is used to a living in a small dorm the opportunity to double their square feet and have personal space? The dicksinson lofts studio apartments in DT Greenville are 425 sq ft renting for 1200 a month (crazy for Greenville). You can pay that much in DT Raleigh in a studio apartment at a place like Skyhouse. Not sure how well that will work out. But then again, ECU's room and board is 11k per year. They could rent these apartments for a comparable price and the student doubles their living space and has their own personal space without the drama of having to share space with a roommate.
It does seem like this Millenial campus should be going back to the drawing board of what it actually is going to be. I'd even suggest this turning into something slightly different. Here is where you could put in a new ECU performing arts center and/or the new Natatorium. Add in a couple of classroom buildings and dorm. Line the backside of it on Dickinson Ave with shops and restaurants. Directly south of the Millenial Campus could be where more public/private partnership comes in for a new ballpark or something.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad look that things are changing. So much has changed in the 2 years since this was announced. This was a project that was going to be in development over the next 15-20 years anyway.
If you really think about this...the Millennial Campus is the perfect place for a Performing Arts Center. Right on 10th St and if the Ficklen Marriott gets built, there is room for more private sector hotels. Its also near the Dickinson corridor. This would be similar to the CFCC Wilson Center in Wilmington, which is on 3rd St and has done really well. It helped revitalize the corridor.
What makes even more sense is that means ECU could SELL the land it owns on Reade Circle to developers, putting it back on the tax rolls and what is now prime real estate on 4th/3rd/2nd and Reade Circle. Anything but surface parking lots. ECU could focus on the 10th St corridor and push TOWARD the Medical Campus.

1,000% agreed HP. It would be a perfect place for it. And forget trying preserve all of these dilapidated buildings . Buildings can be built in a certain style to match the look of older warehouse style buildings.
Just doing something other than surface parking on that ECU land would be something good. Combining some of those smaller buildings (HR, Willis Building, Cotanche, etc.) along Reade into one large 4-5 story complex with a parking deck beside it would be idea. Sell the rest to the city or private developers. The city should do something similar to get some of those smaller tax offices and deeds offices under one roof. This will free up space for more development.
I don't know how feasible it would be, but i'm wondering if they city should consider some sort of new event / convention space in downtown. LIke a smaller facility in the 40-70,000 sq ft range that would double as a mini performing arts center as well. The theater in Roanoke Rapids is listed as 35,000 sq. ft and 1500 seats. I don't see why Greenville cannot have something similar in downtown. The Millenial Campus area would be a perfect area to do it.

That's exciting. There is no doubt a CPL team should do well in Greenville in the summertime.
This should add to Greenville's offerings of things to do and the size should be perfect in providing a more intimate event.
There seems to be some construction in the spot beside Petco (in the Target shopping center). Floors are being torn up and there's construction supplies stacked inside. Any word yet on what's going there?
There is a 7-Eleven(with a gas station) that's currently under construction on S. Memorial, next to Panda Express and Hobby lobby...
have you heard anything about when it will open? I assume this is the very first 7-Eleven in the area?(unless I'm wrong)
Thank you!
