Thinking of heading to the Outer Banks in September for a get away, but am a bit concerned about hurricane season. Anyone have any thoughts or stats about the safety of doing so?

Well, September does tend to be the month we will get hit with one, IF we get one at all. That being said, September is a beautiful time at the beach -the crowds have gone, the temps are bit more comfortable - the indian summer really nice there. I'd say go for it! Buy some trip insurance if you are really concerned about having to cancel because of a hurricane - it's not very expensive.

September is a great time on the outer banks, the hoards are gone (the kiddies and teenagers are back in school) , though still busy, the prices drop significantly for both motels and rental houses. The weather is nice, the water is warm, and it is our favorite time to spend two weeks on the northern outer banks.

Yes, hurricane season can make for a nervous time. You might want to consider some "vacation insurance" worth the piece of mind.

I agree with above poster. It a great time to go but dont forget to take some Deet with you if you are going to be on the sound or a canal side. It still reltative warm that time of year and ocean water should be average of 68 degrees so perfect time.

I also highly suggest trip insurance as well some realty companies give full refund some do partial. Watch weather before you leave, They (police) will tell you if you need to leave but you want to leave before that to beat the crowd to the bridge.
