I am considering moving to Wilmington in the fall, and have many questions as well. How is the public transportation there?I do not drive and depend on buses/trains to get around. Also, i am wondering about the downtown area, is it pleasant? I want a smaller town with a good community, but also some of the amenities and conveniences that a larger city provides. Will I find this here, or any suggestions on nearby areas? Specifically regarding downtown Wilmington, whta raeas/streets should be avoided? Coming from NJ/ Philadelphia area, the cost of living, as far as I've researched, seems exceptional. The job market is a concern, though, as I am in sales too and would need at least a 30k salary. My fiance is a blue collar worker, does anyone know if there is an availability of mechanic/factory jobs and such? Thanks for all your help!!!

Lots of questions; I'll take the transportation one...

No rail service (Amtrak or local), limited flights to/from the airport (mainly connectors to Charlotte & Atlanta). The city's bus system, Wave Transit, looks a bit limited, but would be an option depending on where you will live.

You can probably find a sales job with that salary there, the area is not known at all for professional job availability or well paying jobs either. Factory jobs are few and far between. Mechanic jobs would probably be available though. Poster above was correct about the transportation issues there, airfare is high and limited, and bus service is available but not widely utilized. I lived there for five years and still go back to visit friends and family several times a year.
