Im trying to figure out how to get an expungement for a minor misdeamenor for my husband from 11 years ago. It is preventing us from getting a house. I know he can get the expungement because he has nothing else on his record its just it costs almost 1000 to hire an attorney to file the form I didnt know if anyone has had this problem and what they did?

You can do it yourself, you'll need to get the paperwork from the courts downtown, it will cost you 125.00 to file, it has to go through the court system twice, meaning you will have to sit in a courtroom probably all day waiting for the judge to hear your case twice, and it can take up to 6 months for the process to churn its way through the sluggish legal system here in NC., or you can pay an attorney 500 dollars to grease a few palms and it will be all taken care of in 30 days! I've been looking into this for my son who cannot get a job for a dismisssed misdeameanor, so finding 500 dollars when you have no income isn't working out for him! Good Luck to you.

i agree with above poster. you can save yourself a lot of time and headaches by hiring an attorney. yes, they can work the system better b/c they work in it all the time, just like a mechanic can fix your car better b/c they do it all the time.
