The latest rumor is Washington to the Big East (j/k)

These rumors are getting more ridiculous as the days go by.

This.

And Notre Dame is already a member of a conference...the Big East...just not for football.

And honestly, I think ND joins the Big Ten or becomes a full member of the Big East before they would consider joining the Big X-II.

Texas really doesn't need to be in any of these conferences, they could easily go it alone.

They have fans all across the country and don't need conferences for recruiting or income. The only problem would be getting a BCS rule in place where if they finish in the Top 8 they are guaranteed a spot in a BCS bowl game (similar to what Notre Dame gets).

The chances of Texas going independent are much greater than those of them joining another conference...
Texas has alumni all across the country, but does not really have a national fan base.

Lack of a BCS path is what will make Texas think very hard, and ultimately reject, going independent.
