I think it already was pretty seriously damaged by not having them play every year, but I guess at the time they were setting up the Big 12 the whole conference division thing was still pretty new in college football and no one knew what the effect of it would be.

Agreed with you totally on the Cornhuskers. We should have NEVER let 'em leave. Beebe (Dodd's Puppet) & Co. should have given Nebraska anything they wanted to keep them happy and in the league......that's how big of a tradition-laden program Nebraska is. (Just about on par with the Sooners and definitely the Longhorns.)
Losing Nebraska was huge and pretty much signaled that the old rivalries were gonna change.
Hey, Beebe was not Dodds' choice for commissioner in 2003 - he was for promoting someone else to the job.
Dodds' #1 priority has always been to keep the B12 together.
Texas was sad to see Nebraska go - they were one of the few conference teams we could beat 90% of the time.
how do sooner fans feel bout Coach V, def coor going to Clemson and Coach Stoops from Arizona coming in??
Well, I would have preferred to have kept Coach V alongside with the obvious upgrade of Mike Stoops. Coach V would have basically been accepting a demotion, however. There is no doubt that OU's defense hasn't had the edge/swagger of the early 2000's when Stoops was leading the D. Moreover, I do not see how Coach V's move to Clemson is an upgrade for his career, but one never knows.
Coach Mike Stoops' and his new co-defensive coordinator Coach Kish give the Sooners even more ability to recruit in the huge talent pool of the Southwest (mainly Arizona) and especially California (which Co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell is already).
OU's recruiting strategy is obvious: 1) keep all the blue-chippers from Oklahoma 2) recruit heavily in Texas, Florida, and California. The Sooners are actually the only team that I can think of gaining a national recruiting "footprint" in the three biggest talent football-states simultaneously. Interesting if the strategy will have more dividends in the future.

Really you think that Mike Stoops is an upgrade?? Ou's Dee has been a little off these past years, even though they shut my Horns down the last 2 years.
But looking at Arizona games, while i was in Phoenix, they seem to falter late in their season or when big games where on the line. However they did have a couple of good wins, but think Stoops is at best a C- d guy. We will see.

I can think of another. It even has a presence in Oklahoma. #GunsUp
How is Broyles doing? Hope he does well in the NFL.
