I have no idea about the political particulars of the application process associated with work in the field of education, but if you advertise yourself as a doctoral student might you also be advertising exactly when your next job search will begin or when you will get more expensive?

That's an interesting point. However, many higher ed admin. positions prefer those with terminal degrees, so it is my guess that they would see being a doctoral student as a plus.

However, I hadn't thought of it as you put it! I suppose that is a possibility.
