I am trying to get some extra help. I am already working and saving up some money. Some scholarships are already passed the deadline. But I know others are still open. I am having trouble finding scholarships online. For those of you that have experience which ones to you recommend. The reason why I say low income and not higher achievement its because my GPA is only 3.0 and I haven't been in any organizations.
The largest grants are from the institutions themselves. Did you get any grants or scholarships from the college you plan to attend? Merit scholarships can range from $1,000 - $10,000 - $20,000 per year. If you got a better financial aid offer from another college, talk to the college you want and see if they will match it.
Pay close attention to the amount you have to pay back. Grants and scholarships don't have to be paid back but a Stafford loan is just a loan.
Unfortunately there's not really targeted advice anyone can give you with so little detail. What school are you attending? Where are you from? What's your area of study? Etc.
This sort of work is also pretty labor intensive since there are thousands upon thousands of scholarships out there to sift through.
If you haven't done so, pick a valid scholarship search engine (fastweb, or similar alternatives), utilize the web page of the college you're attending, etc. Perhaps talk to your school's financial aid office, though realistically by this point in the year there's probably not much they can tell you either. But worst they can tell you is 'no.'
