With the venom directed at the military spewed by many lefty college professors, I highly doubt the academic world would intenionally do anything to benefit the military. Don't forget that the "elite" colleges such as Columbia have kicked ROTC off campus.

It has more to do with people rushing to the military as a secure job in this economic disaster. Once the economy recovers, Army for sure and possibly Marines and Navy will have trouble meeting their recruiting goals. Air Force will have trouble meeting goals for certian slots like EOD and SF but should be ok overall, Coast guard will be fine.

I know you posted this as an honest question.....but I have to ask if you have been watching Jesse Ventura's new conspiracy theory show? The idea that colleges would raise tuition with the intention to force people into the military recuriting offices is a laughable conspiracy theory.

There is always a subset of students who join the military for the college benefits, the same way that there is always a subset of kids who join because they want to. Most times those subsets intersect. Many of those kids come from a military background. Some kids join that you'd never believe would. I had a student a few years ago who seemed to be a 2003 throwback to 1968. Seven months after graduation in he walks in his Marine dress uniform. He got a real kick out my reaction, apparently he had sworn all his friends to secrecy so they wouldn't tell me and he could come in and surprise me. Mission Accomplished. I had another kid whose parents were older and as he was the only child they were incredibly overprotective. The day he turned 18 he signed the papers, Marines again, and said to me the next day that the reason he chose the Marines was that they were the furthest he could get from Mom and Dad.
