Hey friends, I currently live up in the Northgate area. We love the springs but are considering moving up to Woodland park next summer . We have a 13 month old, so we do need to take schools into consideration for the future. How are the schools? I go hiking up in woodland park a lot and have always loved it, but truth be told I don’t know much about it. Is it safe? Commuting is not an issue so we aren’t concerned about that. I also know housing is hard to find there, we will probably rent an apartment there for awhile and eventually buy a house, but we aren’t in a rush for that. We are native Montanans, and we grew up in a rural mountain town, so we prefer to get a bit out of the city, as we are just naturally small town people.

My friends with kids in the schools there seem to think they are fine. I know one or two who send their kids down to the Springs for high school because they want certain levels of rigor or certain programs they don't find at Woodland Park. If you have particular desires/needs from a school you should investigate specifics. You should be used to some snow in Northgate, so probably the snow in Woodland Park wouldn't faze you much but most people in other parts of the city might find the increase in snowfall up there an issue.

Many people I've known who lived there missed the mountain views from down in the Springs if they had gotten used to that first. When you're actually in the mountains, sometimes you can't 'see' the mountains as well. I think you can position yourself in certain parts of Woodland Park so that this effect is not an issue compared to others. Being in the pass, there is also less daylight if you are situated in certain places compared to others. Some lament the high traffic of tourists up the pass through town. Some have also reported altitude issues - somehow for some the difference between the Springs and up there is just enough to push them over some threshold for health issues, despite growing up in Colorado. Some report that Woodland Park is VERY dead at night - both as a positive or negative, depending on one's desires. Some also had problems with the wildfire concerns and feeling somewhat 'trapped' when Ute Pass closes in disaster situations. If you never need to get down to the Springs that last one should probably not occur for you. Some got tired of needing to come to the Springs for certain types of medical appointments not available up there.

The above paragraph is not to discourage but just to mention the negatives I hear some people mention so you can be aware and decide if they would matter to you. There are also many positives - smaller town feel, being in the mountains, lower temperature in summer, and so on.

I lived in Green Mountain Falls just southeast of Woodland Park.
Expect more snow and wind.
Expect to go down the Pass more than you think.
Expect more tourists in summer.
Expect more fire danger.
Expect less retail including restaurants.
Expect it to be hard to walk from your house.
Expect rentals to be hard to find.

A couple of employees at my company live there. They love it, don't mind the commute but rail regularly about how tourists impact their ability to get around town during summer weekends.

Thanks! I work from home so I’m not worried about the commute. But you’re right agony the summer. It’s a traffic nightmare up there

Andrew Wommack urges Christians to 'take over' Woodland Park,Teller County

https://gazette.com/government/andre...fe3231261.html

"Health and wealth teacher Andrew Wommack has long urged his followers to “take back Colorado” from the “demon-possessed” socialists and Democrats who’ve turned the state from red to blue.

Last month, that rallying cry became practical, as Wommack urged followers to take control in Woodland Park and Teller County.

“Man, as many people as we have in this school here, we ought to take over Woodland Park,” said Wommack during an April Citizen’s Academy at Charis Bible College, which was hosted by the Truth & Liberty Coalition, the 501(c)4 political organization he founded in 2017."

"Wommack’s call to take over Woodland Park are consistent with his teaching that Christians should have dominion over unbelievers through the "seven mountains" of influence: religion, family, education, government, media, arts and entertainment, and business."

"Charis, which is not accredited, embraces young Earth creationism, which teaches the world was created by God in the past 10,000 years. And Charis’s School of Practical Government promotes an interpretation of American history that equates the constitution with the Bible while overlooking Enlightenment influences."

His cult is getting more alarming as time goes on....

I'm a demon-possessed Democrat, so perhaps take my thoughts with a grain of salt. But while the north end of the Springs is generally conservative, Woodland Park is very, very conservative. I remember going into the pizza joint up there (which is quite good, IMO) during the height of Covid and seeing the main, front-and-center register employee not wearing a mask at all. This was in like July of 2020. That sort of thing was normal up there. It is very, very conservative. That doesn't mean it's a bad fit for you -- that may be your cup of tea. But that would be an issue for us.

Also, the traffic through town is getting absolutely bonkers. I regularly think that I would hate to have to fight through town as a local just trying to go to the store.
