I've used Safelite every time I've had to either have a repair or replacement. This was by default via USAA, but I can say they did a really good job on both repairs and replacements. No complaints.

I looked at them as well as several others - express auto glass quoted me $190 vs. Safelite's $260, so I was wondering if anyone had horror stories about some of the "not so national" type places...LOL! I'm not even involving USAA on this one - it's out of pocket.

Just got mine done at Glass Doctor... they were ok, but far from the best work I've seen though. I wanted to go to Guardian, but they are not open Saturdays. Wherever you go make sure you get a good windshield, DOT 22 (Pilkington), 65 (Safelite), 177 (Guardian), even the Chinese made 459 (FYG Brand) if you have to, but NOT DOT 563, 593, and others. Don't just let them tell you "Its OEM" or "Its PWG, or Safelite, or Pilkington, that doesn't mean its from their own factory, many of them also sell rebadged Chinese XYG brand. Some places are helpful in this regard, others play stupid. Rodney at Guardian is extremely helpful in this regard.

Local places can be the same, better, or worse than nationals. If they say you can drive away right away (within an hour), they are no-good. If it seems unrealistically low priced... I am wary, they have to make money somehow. I tend to call about every place in town and get a good idea of a reasonable price range. You cannot compare different vehicles either, my big truck windshield was half the price of my little Saturn's.

Many people don't realize the windshield is one of the most important structural safety components of a vehicle. I recommend reading this carefully before calling around too:

Hope this helps.

Thank you - very informative post! I will ask those questions -- actually, I asked it of the $180 company and never heard back...hmm...

I used Express earlier this year and they installed a good windshield at much less than Safelite.

The only thing I can suggest is to leave your window unrolled a little for a few hours when you're driving at highway speeds to take pressure off the new seal/sealer they install. They may tell you its not necessary but I started hearing a buzzing noise (almost like a bug caught up by the windshield) on I-25 around Monument that turned out to be an air leak. I cracked my driver's side window a little to take pressure off the windshield and on my return trip back from Denver I left my window up and the problem was gone.

Default autoglass repair

Remember, Driving around with a poorly fitted glass is as dangerous as driving around with a damaged glass.

I always take my vehicles to City Glass downtown on Colorado Ave, they are very quick, always have the glass in stock and are very reasonable and stand behind their work. They don't do on site calls but It's not that bad, the last one I had replaced on my Dodge truck, took them literally 20 minutes to complete. Their guys are good and very fast and efficient at what they do.

Did you drive away after only 20 minutes?!? If so... they did not do a good or even a safe job! See my post and link above.
