I live in the north part of Colorado Springs, and we have an abundance of deer in my neighborhood. There is a doe who stays near my house or under my deck who has an injured foot. It appears when she was smaller, she stepped into a sprinkler system and has the round plastic collar from the sprinkler system embedded in her left front leg, just above her hoof.

I took pictures of it and sent the pictures to Department of Wildlife, and they said they'd be sending officers out to remove the collar (I don't know what else to call it) from the doe's leg. The Department never came - actually they did drive to the end of the street, turned around and left, even though they had my address and knew where this doe was bedding down.

Meanwhile, every day, I see this injured deer hobbling around, with her baby in tow, and it's clear she's in considerable pain. I wish Department of Wildlife would take action for her.

Have you called them back?

Yes, I called them back at least four times. I waited by the window(s) all day for a few days, so I wouldn't miss them. But I probably have called them enough - if they were going to come out, I think they would have already.

Maybe if you threaten to DIY, they'll take you more seriously? IDK. How awful. I would call back & talk to the spvsr for sure.

ETA: Or maybe go to the local news station to do a story, so they'll have to respond if the public outcry gets big enough.

Call and absolutely insist on talking to a supervisor. The suggestion to call one of the local TV news shows is a good idea as well. This should not be going on.

Any updates on this situation?

Default No Progress...

No, the doe is still here, she still has the "attachment" on her leg, and I haven't seen or heard from Department of Wildlife. I would need help for a DIY solution - any ideas? Thank you.

The Humane Society doesn't handle wildlife, but they list this organization in addition to the state wildlife dept:

Wild Forever:
Linda Cope 719-495-4477
Licensed for: Deer, fox, porcupine

If it were me, I'd do as was suggested and insist on talking to a supervisor ... and no matter what happened then, I would contact one of the local TV news shows. I would bet they'll jump right on it and then someone would have to do something.
