The city sends me an email when holiday schedules impact pickup days. They cover the entire city, we only hear these trucks on Mondays and we only see bins at the curb that day. Back in NoVA everyone had the "freedumb" to hire whichever firm they cared to, so we had trucks in there almost every day of the week, bins at the curb almost every day of the week, and it was a detraction not a benefit. It was also 4 times more expensive than the trash service our HOA negotiated for in COLO SPGS.

I pay more property tax now in AZ but my homeowners insurance went down when we moved here, from $3700/year in hail alley (Colo Spgs) to $370/year here. We've no wildfires or hail here and my home has a sprinkler system. These savings more than make up for higher property tax. Like all reasonable people I've no problem paying a fair price for good services. There is such a thing as good government, I think I've got it here and I don't hear neighbors griping about taxes or people sticking up "NO" signs along the sides of the roads like they did back in COLO SPGS.
Not everywhere in NOVA. Trash collection was handled by the city in Falls Church and in the part of Prince William County I later lived in.

Thank you. I was in unincorporated Fairfax County out in Chantilly.

Our private trash service here is far cheaper than government trash service I am accustomed to.

Furthermore, I read this forum quite often and am surprised at the negative comments I read about Colorado Springs. I moved here because I liked what I saw. I didn't move here to complain and wish it would become some other city.
There are people that have moved away from here and the natural tendency is to bad mouth where you left and sign the praises of where you’ve moved to.

Now, I do recycle here, but I like the choice and the low taxes of Colorado Springs.
Do you get to choose your trash company? I figured most neighborhoods were served by only one company?

You can choose whatever trash company you want - most of them serve the whole county.

We had a thread on trash haulers before, and IIRC a lot of people loved Bestway. Me, I favor WMI.

Where does your trash go in El Paso County, how much does a typical covered truck load cost to dump, and has anyone ever heard of Waste Connections Inc.?

It damned near was when we moved there in 1977; not a thing west of us, Rte 28 was a sleepy 2-lane, Ashburn was ten old houses and a country store that sold bait....

Denver has free (last I knew) city wide trash pick-up, and issues each household a 95 gallon trash cart. You can trade your cart in for a different size depending on your needs. They take trash, recycling and compost on a weekly basis and can arrange for free appliance pickup and recycling. They'll also do electronics pickups a few times a year.
