My son went to look at three houses yesterday, one in Fountain and two in Colorado Springs. I made an offer on one of the Colorado Springs houses. It was built in 1985 and has been completely redone. The only downside is it doesn't have a/c or ceiling fans. No sure how often I would need a/c there especially without the humidity factored in. It looks like a brand new house. Has a fully finished basement for my son and 3 bedrooms upstairs. It's in the 80916 zip code and it's about 15-20 minutes from my older son.

There are some nice neighborhoods in that area, with houses built probably better than they are now. Hopefully no HOA. Good luck!

The small RV and towing your car sounds like a good solution.

I think you will miss AC during summer sometimes, but if you have a full basement the basement will probably stay cooler.

Given the age of the home, I'm assuming you'll have a forced air furnace (as opposed to a baseboard system). If so, you can always add AC down the road if you wish. You'll probably miss it some, but I've found that the standalone, portable AC units that run an exhaust duct out the window (as opposed to an actual window unit) do an okay job.

Okay latest update; buying a new Challenger Home. For the same mortgage payment as the 1985 house, I have a brand new home with central a/c and large bedrooms. All new appliances and the builder is paying the closing costs. Should be moving in around February 25th.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. It seem Colorado Springs is having a colder, snowier winter than usual. I've been in Florida for the past 25 years. Now, I'd rather the temperature be 30 degrees than 90 degrees but it's going to be a big adjustment. Also, I've always lived on the east coast of the United States in New York, North Carolina and Florida. Very familiar with humidity so living in a dry climate will be a welcome change (I hope).

Closing on my house is the 22nd and I should be getting on the road the next day which is a Friday.

The buyers want my furniture now which makes my life so much easier. :-)

Actually, no, this winter is not colder and snowier than usual here, fyi. This week is the first real cold snap we've had. December was unseasonably warm. Snow was just a little above average but overall pretty average so far.

I lived 57 years in the Baltimore-DC area, I know heat and humidity quite well. I had no problem adjusting to the climate or elevation in Colorado Springs. The dry air there will feel wonderful to you, but at first we always suggest saline nasal spray, lip balm, sunglasses, and upon arrival drink plenty of water.

Well, I hope the end of February is unseasonably warm since I will be driving to CS from Florida.
