Some nightlife here, not a lot. What we have is usually found downtown, along the Tejon Street eatery corridor. Some retail, mostly the usual places found everywhere. Best nightlife and shopping are in Denver. Good luck to you and your family!

As Mike said, Denver is the center of the universe in Colorado when it comes to nightlife, shopping, and other such things. Colorado Springs is well covered by the Colorado Springs Independent, their weekly entertainment and alternative news source. It's at Colorado Springs Independent : Colorado Springs

As you probably know, Coloradans are best known for outdoor sports and getting into the mountains, so you'll find that many people head for the hills on Saturdays.

Default gps

You don't need a GPS! Just use the mountains! The mtns are to the west of you, the plains to the east! If you just drive COS a bit, it won't take you long to get to know COS, we are a small enough city that it will only take you 30 mins to drive from one end to another. You will do most of your shopping on just a few major streets...one will probably be Powers Blvd.
Temps on Wednesday are supposed to be in the 50s I believe, so you won't probably need a jacket. Looks pretty decent all week, which is a good introduction to a COS winter. Those temps are pretty typical with an occasional cold spell and with snow.

There is a very large percentage of restaurants and retail stores in the Springs compared to the population. More than most cities in the 300-500,000 population range. You will find plenty of variety.

Botique girl clothing in Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City, Downtown.
High end girl clothing at the Shoppes at Briargate and the Malls.

Lots of outdoor recreation here. Biking, hiking, skiing... all ages. Colorado Springs was selected as the fittest city in the U.S. two years ago. Colorado also has the lowest obesity rate of all the states. The U.S. Olympic headquarters is here and many atheletes train here as well. Check out Garden of the Gods when you first arrive for some senic picture taking to send back to friends in the East.

And you will be able to enjoy ALL of those outdoor activities after you catch your breath (from the altitude change) which should only take about 30 days or so....
