Question about the regularity of the wind in the Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs area. I presume being in, near or around the mountains that a fairly regular breeze blows. I have spent some time at ski resorts in winter and visited Estes in the fall so I have an idea. But the visits were only 4-5 days long.
My reasons for the inquiry is I am interested in individual wind turbines. I am anti wind farm simply because they are a waste of land and the energy lost between collection and distribution is very high. The individual wind turbines that I am researching are Mariah Energy and Helix Wind. Helix is astetically(?) nicer and doesn't seem to need as much wind.
Just hopeful to live close to if not completly off grid soon.

I don;t get it, are you anti-wind turbine or pro wind-turbine.

If you're looking for windy spots, there are plenty of them in CO. One of the widniest is along Hwy 24 as you head west from woodland park. I know first-hand that the area around eleven mile and spinney mtn reservoirs are very windy, regularly gusting up to 30-40+ mph., because the wind comes down off the 14ers and whips across the broad valley out there.

Check with the Mountain View Electric Association website (mvea.org, I think). They have rebate programs for installing individual turbines and information on where to buy these turbines. They are encouraging folks on the eastern plains to put them up.

For info on wind and solar in this area, see the S.E.Colo Renewable Energy Society (SECRES), the local chapter of the state and national organization. There are some quite knowledgeable people there who'd love to steer people towards the goals of renewable energy.
