FWIW, I live in Windtree Apartments. I moved in last June as my landlord/friend decided to the sell the house I lived in for 11 years.

Anyhow, it's safe, rents are reasonable and I don't have any trouble getting around the city because the two major cross streets are Union and Academy.

I don't know if they have anything available at the moment but they do offer (depending on the time of year) short-term leases. My first lease was 3 months, this one is 7 months - they wouldn't do another 3 month lease because I would have been leaving at the end of this month and it's not prime moving time. It worked out anyway as I still haven't found a house I want to buy...

I live in the Old North End - the area Mike mentioned - beautiful old victorians - so charming - awesome neighborhood! There is an Inn called St. Mary's on Nevada Ave. that is in walking distance to everything - we had our wedding there - just stunning.

Downtown is great - cute stores, great restaurants - Tejon St. has all ....

I wouldn't live anywhere but downtown!!

Agree completely -- except for a walkable grocery store (if there is one, I haven't found it.)

Three blocks east of the main Penrose Hospital there is a Safeway at Wahsatch and Madison in the Bon Shopping Center, which has been there for 55+ years.

Agree. It's a great shopping center, I've discovered, and lots of "small town feel." But it isn't really walkable from downtown.

True. I can see living midway between the Safeway and the downtown, then having a short mile in either direction; some would find that okay for walking or bicycling.
