Talking Colorado State Fair

The 2010 edition of the Colorado State Fair is about to start and they are starting to put up the rides so I thought I would post it. As usual you can expect a full and detailed look at Colorado's largest single event once it starts August 27 as well as the parade as I will be having brunch and watching it from one of the condo buildings in downtown so it should give me a great vantage point to take pictures.

This is from you tube:

Josseppie,

Thanks for posting all the great pics!

If you're not employed by the chamber of commerce, they should give you a job! I mean that sincerely. You're the best PR man they could ask for.

Talking Colorado State Fair

As the Colorado State Fair gets ready to start this weekend the Chieftain talked about the kind of economic impact it has on the Pueblo area. It is over $30 million dollars and they hire 700 people for the 11 day run, 10 plus the sneak a peak.

This is from the Chieftain:

It's Pueblo's biggest party, and a hefty hunk of the city's summer economy.

The Colorado State Fair, which starts its 11-day run Friday, injects an estimated $30 million into the bank accounts of local hotels, retailers, eateries and families, according to Fair Manager Chris Wiseman. More than 700 people have been hired for this year's event, for everything from maintenance to security.

Two pictures I took of the fair today. I love how the midway adds to the skyline on the south side of Pueblo for 2 weeks!

Talking 2010 Colorado State Fair

I was at the Colorado State Fair Parade last weekend and here are some of the pictures I took.

I went to Central high school, class of 1991, and as you can see we have the bell! That is the trophy from the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi between Central and Centennial High School. In Pueblo we have a class yell and mine was "The blue and white spirt that can't be out done, we're the might wild cats of 1991"!

Pictured here is the President of Colorado State University - Pueblo Joe Garcia and hopefully the Lieutenant Governor of Colorado after the elections this fall.

I think this shows Vesta's comentent to Colorado and espeically Pueblo!

I went during the day Sunday, and admittedly did not go to any of the "big" events. I guess I've outgrown fairs...or maybe after having not been to any in several decades they're just not what they used to be. I did enjoy the farm animals. The rides were "okay" carnival type. What in the old days we would have called the midway...well, the food was typical fair food, but almost totally repetitive as you walked along. The vendors...almost too many of them...do people really come to the fair to shop? The price was reasonable, even more so if you went during the week. People were friendly. For me, it was something to do for a few hours.
