They should have a film festival there and show them all.

Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. We were looking for a single-family house. But we rented a condo for 6 months on the Animas River, right behind Home Depot. It was really nice, and i do kind of miss the views of the river and all of the bald eagles in the winter. Renting for a while gave us the opportunity to get a good feel for different parts of town before committing to a purchase.

Our favorite places were on CR 250 (up the valley from town - there are some beautiful properties north of Trimble on 250). But we didn't find anything there in our price range when we were searching. In retrospect, i'm glad we didn't end up that far out of town. We also looked at houses in Edgemont and Ute Pass. The houses in Edgemont were nicely done, but it was just a little to far from town. We saw a house we really liked in Ute Pass, but it had warning signs of structural issues. I think Ute Pass would be a decent location - it's about as far from town as I would want to be. There we also some houses up around Timberline Dr that suprisingly had drop dead gorgeous views. We just didn't see any houses we liked at the time we were shopping.

We made an offer on a house in the Animas City neighborhood - at the very north end of 4th ave. It was a nice house, and while i didn't really like the neighborhood at first, i now think it would be a really nice part of town to live in.

For whatever reason we weren't crazy about the neighborhoods up by the college. I also have no interest in living on or near a golf course, so we didn't even consider Dalton Ranch etc. But there seemed to be some nice, reasonably priced houses in Dalton and The Ranch.

We ended up buying in a subdivision called Rockridge and we really love it. We can ride our bikes into town. The trailhead for the hike up Perins Peak is at the end of our street. And we're basically surrounded by open space.

We are going to rent for a while too, long enough to figure out where we do and don't want to live in Durango. Btw, which condos, the ones directly on the Animas or the complex directly behind HD (sorry, can't recall either name)? We really liked the complex behind HD but the landlord didn't allow pets so... The townhouses that front the Animas are just beautiful, probably out of our price range but a guy can dream.

We were in those directly on the river. I think it was called River Oaks? The address was River Oaks Drive. I'm pretty sure we were paying around $1,300 a month for a 3 br, 2 bath townhouse...

The rent was my next question so thanks for the info...they might not be out of our range after all.
