The Pueblo Chieftain had a article on the snow pack and it looks good with more snow on the way this weekend.

This is what the NWS in Pueblo says about this weekend.

March Madness? It is still a bit far out to have a lot of confidence in the computer forecasts, but it is looking more likely that a potentially significant winter storm will affect our area late Friday into Saturday. A low pressure system (part of the big 'whorl' of yesterday's post) will move in from the northwest as the jet stream dips into New Mexico on Friday. Not a classic 'Albuquerque Low'--but it looks like it may bring some decent moisture and upslope winds to the plains. A couple of the recent computer forecasts hint at upwards of six inches of snow for the I-25 corridor. In typical March fashion, this may start out as rain. Stay tuned for the latest!

The next storm system in the west will arrive to eastern Utah and western Colorado this evening. Snow will spread across the eastern Uinta mountains by sunset as a cold front makes it way south through the night. Snow coverage and intensity will increase across the northern and central Colorado mountains by midnight...with the southern mountains seeing moderate snow by sunrise. Snow amounts may reach up to a foot in favored locations of the northern mountains as colder northerly flow moves in behind the front. Mountain valleys will see snow but generally in the 3 to 5 inch range with 1-3 inches expected over the Yampa river valley from Hayden to Maybell. Below 5500 feet the precipitation should stay in the form of rain.

I am forecasting 5-10 inches of snow at my house on the south west side of Pueblo. More in the south west suburbs of Beulah and Rye and less east of the interstate including Colorado State University Pueblo. In fact the university campus is not under a advisory.

Light steady rain earlier for an hour or two, now snowing for 1-2 hours, coming almost straight down with little or no wind at all.

Most welcome weather.

Edit 3:03 PM: Wind has picked up now, from the NW to the SE. Snowing moderately to heavy.

Thanks. So it looks like once the storm starts Pueblo will get 1-2 hours of rain till it changes to snow. It looks like it will start raining by 3 so that would mean all snow by rush hour.

I drove over Donner Summit on I-80 in the California Sierras earlier today. I was shocked to see only about 6 inches of accumulated snow on the ground. That's it...just 6 inches on one of the snowiest passes on the interstate system. I've been there in previous years when there was 15 feet of settled snow on Donner Summit. This is a rather serious lack of snow. In comparison, much of Colorado has fared much better.....THANKFULLY!
